Five Things To Know About Halifax County Restaurant Week

Plate OnlyTwelve restaurants are participating in Halifax County Restaurant Week. They are offering three-course, prix-fixe menu priced at either $10, $20 or $30 … except for Joe and a Bow, where they feature two Restaurant Week specials. The menus range from country cooking to the award-winning cuisine of Bistro 1888 and Molasses Grill. How will you ever choose which restaurant will serve you each night? Dine around in alphabetical order?

Let’s put a method to the madness, or at least identify some key factors to consider.

 

1. Pricing

$10 Breakfast Menus: Sissy’s Country Kitchen, Southern Plenty, & The Packhouse

$10 Lunch Menus: Darby’s Tavern, Sissy’s Country Kitchen, Southern Plenty, & The Packhouse

$20 Dinner Menus: Bistro 1888, JB’s at World of Sports, Molasses Grill, Oak Tree Tavern at VIR, & Roma’s

$30 Dinner Menus: Darby’s Tavern, Main Street Café, & Oak Tree Tavern at VIR

If you’re looking to dine with entertainment (or without), the events for these restaurants this weekend:

JB’s at World of Sports

September 14: Open Mic night

September 15: Moonshine Sons (Classic rock, Country, and dance songs)

September 16: Moonshine Sons (Classic rock, Country, and dance songs)

Connie’s Pub/Oak Tree Tavern at VIR

September 15: Chris Fisher (Alternative/Acoustic)

 

3. Hours of Operation

A well-made dining plan is one with all of the facts. Is your favorite restaurant even open on the day you’d like to partake of their special menu? Plan accordingly.

Bistro 1888 serves dinner Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:30 until 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Reserve online.

Darby’s Tavern is open Sunday through Thursday from Noon to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from Noon to 11 p.m.

JB’s is open Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m., Friday from 4 p.m. until midnight, Saturday from noon until midnight, and Sunday from Noon until 10 p.m.

Joe and a Bow (South Boston and Halifax) is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and closed on Sunday.

Main Street Cafe is open Monday through Thursday from 5 to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Molasses Grill serves dinner Thursday through Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. Reserve Online

Oak Tree Tavern serves dinner Monday from 5 to 10 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m.

Roma’s is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Sissy’s Country Kitchen is open Wednesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Southern Plenty is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Packhouse is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Dinner on Monday looks like Darby’s JB’s Main Street, Oak Tree Tavern, and Roma’s you won’t get to taste the wonderful dishes that Bistro’s Chef Margaret is cooking up until Tuesday or delight the palate with a Chef Schopen meal until Thursday at the earliest. Better make those reservations fast!
