#HalifaxVA 2018 Resolutions

We have eight resolutions that everyone can keep for 2018. They are fun, adventursome, cultural, entertaining, and relaxing. There's something for everyone in #HalifaxVA!

1. Visit the #HalifaxVA wineries & Springfield Distillery.

For the oenophile or the causal sipper, Halifax County's three vineyards are stunning and offer tastings in well-appointed and comfortable settings given by knowledgeablestaff. Tours are also available, and of course, if you find a favorite, wines are available for purchase. If you're not into wine, visit Springfield Distillery for craft whiskey, rum, or their latest product, bourbon. You'll find a gorgeous setting, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and peak into the behind-the-scenes of how it's all made. Wine and spirits, not your thing, they all offer non-alcoholic beverages, relaxing atmospheres, classes & events, and gift shops.

2. Star gaze or camp at Staunton River State Park

#HalifaxVA enjoys being home to two state parks, including Staunton River State Park. The 2,400-acre park offers woodlands, meadows, and shoreline along the Dan and Staunton rivers offers a fantastic camping experience. You can "rough it" in a beautiful cabin, or if you're a purist, the park offers a campground. Within the park, you'll find 17 miles of trails, an Olympic-sized pool, volleyball and tennis courts, picnic areas, playgrounds, and boat launches. If you're into astronomy or just enjoy being under the night sky, Staunton River State Park plays hosts to two "Star Parties" each year--in March and in October. Astronomers from across the country descend on the park for a week-long astronomy session, culminating in a free public event where curious night-sky lovers can view celestial objects through high-powered telescopes and learn from astronomers what they are seeing.

3. Horseback riding at Shangrila Guest Ranch

You will find a world-class riding facility and experience at Shangrila Guest Ranch in Cluster Springs! Now that you know give them a call (434) 517-0888 to schedule your horseback ride along the trails--plan for an hour or an entire day!

4. Spend a day at the South Boston Museum of Fine Arts & History

Take a couple of hours and head to South Boston Museum of Fine Arts & History. Meander through the galleries to learn about the rich history and culture of Southern Virginia through the various permanent and rotating exhibits. The museum is also your place for genealogical research and creating your family tree. There is a lot to explore and a wealth of information about #HalifaxVA.

5. Attend a race at SoBo Speedway & VIR

Whether you like the left turns or the winding road course, #HalifaxVA has you covered. Take in a stock car race at the NASCAR-sanctioned South Boston Speedway on a Saturday night. Looking for a different experience, head to Alton to Virginia International Raceway for a weekend of racing from fancy cars to trucks to motorcycles. While you're there, check out the spa or dine at Oak Tree Tavern. Enjoy the beautiful rolling hills and expanse of the grounds.

6. Paddle or fish Southern Virginia Wild Blueway

Spring is 54 days away. Warmer weather and longer days signal more time for outdoor adventure. Cast your reel or paddle your kayak down one of the Southern Virginia Wild Blueway's three rivers or two lakes for an adventure unlike any other. Experience nature at its finest.

7. See a show at The Prizery

The Prizery brings the arts to Halifax County with year-round programming running from September through May and its Summer Theatre professional productions in June and July. Past programming has included opera, bluegrass, murder mystery dinner theatre, dueling divas, open mics, dramas, ballet, gospel, comedies, and much more. Also, The Prizery provides creative space for music lessons, art classes (pre-K), an art gallery with rotating exhibits, pottery classes, and a variety of other options for creativity. In addition to the in-house productions and various professional offerings, Halifax County Little Theatre calls The Prizery home, producing three community-theatre shows annually.

8. Attend Restaurant Week

Small-town charm meets big-time event. Make plans to attend the most delicious week of the year in Halifax County -- Restaurant Week. The annual event offers tempting and tantalizing menu options at discounted prices during the week-long celebration of FOOD. Mark your calendars for the week of September 9-15, 2018 to experience this tasty event. Look for participating restaurants and special events to be announced in the spring.
